A Brief Introduction of Taichung Municipal Feng Yuan Senior High School
Feng Yuan Senior High School was founded in 1968 in accordance with the government’s nine-year compulsory education policy. In February of the same year, the former principal of Provincial Taichung First Senior High School, Mr. Chou Feng-chi,was appointed to take charge of the whole construction. In the meantime, Mr. Liao Jung-shiung, recommended by representatives from all walks of life in Fengyuan, formed a committee to help with the construction. Soon after that, Taiwan Provincial Government bought the adjacent land to Taichung First Senior High School’s branch school--Wongtz branch school-- altogether about 12 acres, as the new school’s site.
In April of the same year, the first stage of construction began officially. In July, the newly-founded school was for the first time on the list of the Joint Entrance Exam to Senior High Schools of Central Taiwan and recruited 5 classes, with the students totaling 250. On August 5, Feng Yuan Senior High School was formally founded. When this school was founded, all the juniors and seniors were transferred from the senior section of former Fengyuan Middle School. The freshmen were admitted through the Joint Entrance Exam. As a result, the quality as well as the university admission rate has been raised year after year. So far, this school has graduated 33 batches of graduates on a yearly basis. In 1984, an art experimentation class was initiated. Now there are 42 regular classes and 3 art classes, with the students totaling approximately 2000.
The first principal of Feng Yuan Senior High School, Cheng Ji-meng , had been in office for thirteen and a half years till February 1982, when he was transferred to Provincial Tainan Second Senior High School. Then, principal of Provincial Da Jia Industrial Senior High School, Sha Jen-an, succeeded to the office. After Mr. Sha retired in September 1983, Wang Jeng-shian , principal of Feng Dung Junior High School, served as the next principal.
